Wishing you “Fook” :)

Wishing you all a prosperous New Year ahead πŸ™‚

Hi peeps..

Today we celebrate the 1st day 9f the Chinese Lunar year.

As according to our tradition, my mum awoke early to prepare for breakfast. This is no ordinary breakfast. It is celebrated to welcome the new year, with wishes of longevity, bountiful and prosperity. In a traditional Foochow family, we will cook the ‘ Long life Noodles ( handmade noodles .. you can see my earlier post here) and the noodles with a special soup.. the Red Rice Wine Chicken Soup (recipe here). This red rice wine will be prepared at home about 3 months prior to the new year.

After which, we will get dressed in our new outfit ( I have outgrown this lol) with colours of red, yellow… bright colours to signify prosperity and good tidings for the year. A NO NO for black and gloomy colours.. you will get lecturing from the elders in the community :).

We do not sweep the house today.. for its like sweeping the luck away (hmm that makes sense, after all so much effort in welcoming the luck into the home ;p). We do not wash clothes or do any more major cleanings. Its a day of visiting of relatives, eat abundantly and more mandarin oranges.. Oh yeah.. I almost forgot, for all the singletons and children, this is the favourite part.. the get angpow (red packet ) with money… and for the married ones.. today, we give these angpows to those younger singletons than us. For most Malaysians, today, we OPEN HOUSE, meaning that friends, guests and relatives can drop by anytime to have a chat, or eat and drink with us :).

So this card I share.. is to wish all of you celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year.. GONG XI FA CAI.. πŸ™‚
